Hazard and Risk Maps for your BDRRM PLAN
The REDAS 2023 Training for the Province of Batangas, organized by PHIVOLCS, focused on integrating disaster risk reduction into local planning through the use of REDAS software. Held from February 27 to March 4, 2023, at the Batangas Provincial Capitol, the training covered three main modules: Basic REDAS and Seismic Hazard Assessment, Developing Relational Databases, and Exposure Database Development. Pre-training sessions on software installation were conducted virtually on February 23-24, 2023, issuing 43 REDAS, ETAM, and SRM license keys to participants from provincial and municipal LGUs.
Participants:
43 attendees from Batangas LGUs (7 provincial, 36 municipal/city representatives from 28 LGUs).
Modules:
Exposure Database Development: Included lectures on Philippine Building Typology, GeoMapperPH, and hands-on building surveys.
Basic REDAS Software and SQLite: Training on seismic hazard assessment, map digitization, and earthquake intensity simulations.
Alerting Tools: Introduction to updated Earthquake and Tsunami Alerting Module (ETAM) and Satellite Rainfall Monitor (SRM).
Activities:
Field surveys at Batangas Provincial Capitol using GeoMapperPH.
Exercises on creating maps and simulating earthquake impacts using REDAS tools.
Facilitators:
Led by PHIVOLCS Director Dr. Teresito C. Bacolcol and supported by REDAS experts, PAGASA, and DENR-MGB representatives.
Coordination by Batangas PDRRMO staff.

Participants found the training highly useful for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), expressing gratitude for the practical knowledge gained.
Overall, the training was deemed successful in enhancing DRRM capabilities at the local government level, with participants praising its applicability and relevance.
